Resources and Information
Many of us know that if we have breast cancer in our family history, we are at greater risk and should be vigilant about doing our self breast exams monthly and making sure that we never miss our yearly check up.
But did you know that if you have breast cancer in your family history, you are at an 85% higher risk than the general public for getting ovarian cancer? Do you know the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer? It's more than 90% curable if caught in the early stages, but less than 25% are caught early enough.
The flip side?...Did you know that only 5-10% of all breast and ovarian cancer cases are related to family history. That means the other 90-95% of the women getting breast/ovarian cancer are getting it at random.
This is our message. This is why we are striving to educate women about the link, about the risks.
Breast and ovarian cancers take more than 150 lives a day in the United States. It doesn't have to be that way. Know the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and do your MSBE (monthly self breast exams).
Please see more detailed information about breast or ovarian cancer as well as hereditary risks on the subpages to the Resources and Information page.
